You know the story, there’s a girl. She is a princess in a faraway land and there is a guy that’s crazy about her. They’ve had a miraculous meeting and fell in love. They plan on getting married and living happily ever after.

Everything is great… except there is a bad guy. He’s got horns, evil minions, and he hates the guy who has fallen in love. He steals the princess and takes her to his evil lair of fire and waits for his nemesis to come and try to save the princess.

The hero loves the princess and must fight through hordes of evil minions level after level to try and save his love. When the hero reaches the bad guy he deals a crushing blow to the boss and takes back his princess.

They live happily ever after, that is until the sequel hits and something goes wrong… again.

That princess is always getting into trouble and our mustached hero keeps fighting for her no matter how many times she finds herself in danger.

You probably know this story, it is the story of Mario and his beloved Princess Peach, or Jesus and his princess and soon to be bride, the church.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 in order to make her holy by cleansing her with the washing of water by the word, 27 so as to present the church to himself in splendor, without a spot or wrinkle or anything of the kind—yes, so that she may be holy and without blemish.

– Ephesians 5:25-27

As I review the story I’m shocked at how similar they are, in fact, the only difference is one is make-believe and the other is true. Both start out as everyday Joes and turn into extraordinary heroes.
